On the road to the FFA Cup Final 2019

The FFA Cup action is hotting up around the country, with giant-killers enjoying their day in the sun and the bigger NPL clubs dreaming of a clash with Hyundai A-League opposition in the months to come. 

Can anyone follow in the footsteps of APIA Leichhardt Tigers in 2018? Who can forget how the NSW NPL club played host to mighty Melbourne Victory in the Round of 16 in August and sent the Hyundai A-League champions back to Victoria with their tails between their legs after a 3-2 defeat. 

Fourth-tier South Australians Tea Tree Gully have already recorded a famous victory, turning over NPL1 side West Adelaide 1-0 in March, and there are sure to be many more thrills and spills to come.

APIA were unable to repeat their Victory giant-killing act at the quarter-final stage in 2018, losing 2-0 to eventual winners Adelaide United, while Victorian sides Avondale FC – who took holders Sydney FC to extra-time before losing 4-2 – and Heidelberg United also dropped out in the last eight. 

Pick of the bunch were another Victorian club, Bentleigh Greens, who knocked out Wellington Phoenix on their way to going within one game of a memorable Final appearance before falling to goals from Adelaide United's Ben Halloran and Jordan Elsey in the last four. 

Who will write their names in FFA Cup history this time around?

The Road to the FFA Cup Final 2019 is well underway right around the country, and www.theffacup.com.au was on hand at Peter Moore Field in Campsie to begin our own journey, as Sydney Olympic took on Stanmore Hawks in Round 5 of the NSW competition.

We will follow Sydney Olympic in the next round, against the winner of Nepean FC vs UNSW (date to be determined), and will continue to follow the winner of each tie all the way along the Road to the FFA Cup Final 2019.
