Roar hit by late injury

Brisbane Roar’s preparations for Tuesday night’s Westfield FFA Cup clash with Adelaide United have taken a hit with goal-keeper Michael Theo ruled out through injury.

Theo injured his wrist at training on Monday morning and didn’t travel with the squad as they flew to Adelaide a few hours later for the round of 16 clash.

A Roar official told www.theffacup.com.au the injury is not believed to be serious, although the experienced shot-stopper is still to be fully assessed.

It’s believed he suffered the injury as he attempted to save a shot during the side’s final hit-out in Brisbane on Monday morning.

Theo’s absence means former England youth international Jamie Young, who joined the club in the off-season, will make his first competitive Roar start against the Reds at Coopers Stadium.

The 33-year-old’s injury – regardless of the severity – will be of some concern to coach Mike Mulvey with the club’s season-opener less than three weeks away.
