The 31-year-old South Australian's storied career has taken him to Turkey, Italy, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, China and most recently, Melbourne Victory, where he lifted the Hyundai A-League Championship in 2017/18.

Earning 37 Caltex Socceroos caps along the way, and scoring the winning goal in the AFC Asian Cup Final 2015, Troisi finally feels he is home after crossing the Original Derby divide.

Having never ran out for his local team, Troisi revealed his excitement to sign a two-year deal with the Reds as his career comes full circle.

“I’m really excited to be returning to Adelaide for the first time to live and play football in about 16 years,” he said.

“Adelaide is where I’m from and I’m proud to be joining my hometown club and bringing my family back to where I grew up and my football journey began.

“It was always tough coming up against Adelaide when I played against them in the past but to be lining up in red for the next two seasons is a great feeling.

“The team has already been doing very well having made the FFA Cup Final and I’m looking forward to adding to the positive results the Club has had in the A-League season.”

“The new campaign is starting soon and I’m looking forward to getting underway with my new teammates.”

Troisi will pull on the number 10 jersey for Gertjan Verbeek’s side and is available for selection for the Hyundai A-League season opener against Sydney FC at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

Director of Football Bruce Djite said: “We're extremely happy to have James become a part of the Adelaide United family for the next two seasons.

“James' exceptional technical ability in possession will be an important attribute, considering Gertjan’s attacking philosophy and the way he wants the team to play.”
