South Hobart back on national Cup stage

South Hobart is into the Westfield FFA Cup for a second straight year after winning Tasmania’s Milan Lakoseljac Cup final against Kingborough on Monday.

At KGV, Ken Morton’s under-manned side produced a clinical performance, scoring twice in each half for a comfortable 4-0 win.

They will now await next month’s draw to see which side they will meet in the round of 32.

With a howling breeze at their back in the first half, it took only eight minutes for South to edge in front through Darcy Hall.

Hall got in behind the Lions defence down the left and hit a powerful shot which ‘keeper Andrew Duncan got a hand on but not enough to keep it out of the net.

The wind then helped South double their lead 16 minutes later.

Left-back Matt Lewis had the ball about 35 metres from goal and lofted a cross into the box but the ball caught the breeze and sailed over Duncan’s head and into the net.

The Lions squandered two superb chances early in the second half as both Billy Gasparinatos and Danny Cowan failed to hit the target in one-on-one situations.
