South Melbourne's sensational road to the FFA Cup semi final

South Melbourne have enjoyed an epic, goal-filled journey to the Westfield FFA Cup semi finals.

They are just one win away from an historic Westfield FFA Cup Final ahead of Wednesday night’s semi final against A-League powerhouse, Sydney FC.

And even though they haven’t faced any A-League opposition to date, it’s still been an incredible ride for the South boys.

Here’s how they ended up in the last four of the Cup.

QUALIFYING FOR ROUND OF 32

You may never see a game like this again. Ever! South produced one of the most startling comebacks to qualify for Round of 32 in their final qualifying clash against Dandenong City.

Trailing 4-1 with less than 10 minutes left, South somehow scored four goals before the end to send the fans into raptures and book their spot in the Cup in dramatic fashion.

ROUND OF 32

After the drama of Dandy City, Daniel McBreen’s Edgeworth Eagles were the visitors to Lakeside and an even encounter was once again decided at the death when that man Milos Lujic got on the end of a corner and powered a header into the net to send the home fans delirious again. South winning 1-0 in front of 2622 fans.

ROUND OF 16

WA side Sorrento were the visitors and after going down to 10 men, the West Australians were always going to struggle at Lakeside.

The 4-1 win started by Leigh Minopoulos inside the opening minute. Epifano with a double and Lujic all on target.

QUARTER FINALS

An absolutely smashing win on the Gold Coast.

South scored in the opening two minutes and by the end they’d put six past a very disappointing Gold Coast City. Final score, 6-0. Lujic and Millar on target with a brace, Daley and Zinni also on the scoresheet.

Semi finals, here we come!
