On a thrilling night in Queensland, Brisbane Strikers have held-off a frantic late fightback from Redlands United to advance to the Westfield FFA Cup last 32 for a second straight year after a 4-3 win.
The former NSL club led 4-1 with less than half an hour remaining at Cleveland Showgrounds before United came storming home on Tuesday night.
Goals to Igor Sao Jose and Lyndon Dykes set up a grandstand finish but the visitors held on to be the second Queensland side – with FNQ Heat - to book their spot in the round of 32.
It was a scintillating start to the contest with Strikers going in front just after the 10 minute mark via a stunning long-range strike from Jheison Macuace.
Seven minutes later it was 2-0 as Macuace turned provider, putting the ball on a plate for Fraser Hills to tap-in from close range.
