‘QUALITY COMES OUT IN THE END’: How Corica's team-talk rallied Sydney FC to beat Wanderers

And they continued their preparations towards the Final - and the start of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Season by scoring two first-half goals to prevail 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Jubilee Oval.

Coach Steve Corica played a near full-strength line-up and it was one of his new recruits that opened the scoring on 15 minutes.

Dutch defender Jop van der Linden’s curling free-kick took a deflection off the wall to beat keeper Ben Kennedy.

Then nine minutes before half-time it was Alex Brosque who doubled the lead.

The Sky Blues skipper was in the right place at the right time to tap home from point-blank range after a superb turn and cut-back from Adam Le Fondre.

Neither side was able to find the net after the break as Sydney held on for another win ahead of their season-opener against Adelaide United next Friday night.

The Mariners will play another friendly match tonight in Campbelltown, with the likes of Usain Bolt, Ross McCormack and Tommy Oar all in the starting side against Macarthur South West United.
