Tuggies boss: Our greatest performance

Tuggeranong United coach Steve Forshaw says his team's shootout victory over South Hobart in the Westfield FFA Cup will be remembered as among the most famous in his tiny club's history.

The 'Tuggies' survived conceding a second-half own-goal to equalise with minutes remaining and force extra-time at KGV Park in Hobart, going on to beat the Tasmanian powerhouse 5-4 on penalties in the round of 32 on Tuesday night.

Having booked their place in the last 16 alongside what is sure to be some heavyweight A-League opposition, Forshaw made no attempt to talk down the scale of his team's achievement.

"It'll go down in the annals of Tuggeranong history as one of the great performances," he said.

"To come all the way from Canberra, to play a very, very useful South Hobart outfit and to get the result, puts us in the final 16 of the national competition, the first one, so great effort. Great effort.

"It's probably the proudest I've been, involving the football team, for a long, long time.

"Certainly in the first half we were under the pump, scrapping and fighting. We showed a lot of spirit. And in the end, that's what's got us through.

"As the game progressed, we got into it a little bit more, created a couple of chances. And we might have scored, but so could they. Really impressive unit, South Hobart.

"But I'm absolute delighted with the efforts the boys have put in tonight and couldn't be prouder."

Forshaw reserved special praise for goalkeeper Rohan Shepherd, who survived one shaky moment in what was an otherwise outstanding display, going on to save from South Hobart's Caleb Ludlow in the shootout to help send his team into the next round.

"Fantastic keeper isn't he? His distribution was as bad as you'll see but in terms of shot-stopping, in terms of commanding his penalty area, he was superb," the Tuggies coach said of his in-form custodian.

"Absolutely superb. He's pulled off two match-saving saves. He played a significant part in our performance tonight."
