Westfield FFA Cup Preliminary Round wrap - week 2

It was another huge weekend of preliminary rounds in the Westfield FFA Cup with some huge scores around the country as Western Australia kicked off their first matches of the year in Geraldton and a 15-year-old scored a hat-trick in Victoria.

 

Chapman Athletic and Olympic Heat were the two sides to advance to the next stage in WA, the Heat producing an excellent performance to knock off the Geraldton Rovers 3-1.

There was plenty of goals in Northern NSW as some clubs flexed their muscles with huge wins.

The pick of those was Mayfield Senior United who trounced Dudley Redhead United 17-1.

Singleton Strikers also hit double figures as they crushed Muswellbrook 12-0, Beresford United put 10 past Warners Bay, while Kahibah (9-1) and Valentine (8-3) beat Westlakes Wildcats and Lake Macquarie City respectively.

Other notable results in Northern NSW included Kotara South’s 7-1 demolition of Mereweather Advance, while Hunter Simba edged Morisset United in a nine-goal thriller 5-4 and Medowie beat Tenambit Sharks 5-3.

Victoria also played host to a stack of matches across the weekend with plenty of thrilling action.

Truganina Hornets were among the most impressive, chalking up a 6-1 win over Marcellin Old Collegians, while Hoppers Crossing had little trouble in disposing of Newmarket Phoenix.

The best individual effort of the weekend arguably came from teenager Marcelo De La Plaza-Sanchez, the 15-year-old bagging a hat-trick in Laverton’s Park’s 4-1 win over Northern United.

Other results in Victoria included: Brimbank Stallions beating Old Xaverians 6-3, Brighton knocking off Mitchell Rangers 3-1 and Noble Park edging out Casey Panthers 4-3.
