Bentleigh Greens have earned their place in the last 16 with a thrilling 4-1 penalty shoot-out win over Hume City.

The Greens opened the scoring through Tyson Holmes in just the 10th minute with Hume’s Jayden Prasad squaring the ledger after an hour.

Following a goal-less period of extra-time, Bentleigh were clinical from the spot, with Ben Litfin, Matt Thurtell, Kieran Dover and Lambros Honos all successful.

Sydney United have flexed their muscles to impressive effect, smashing Far North Queensland Heat 7-2 at the Sydney United Sports Centre.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half through Jamie Carroll, but United were quickly ahead through goals from former Hyundai A-League players Glen Trifiro and Matt Sim.

The floodgates opened in the second half with Japanese striker Yutaro Shin grabbing a double and Chris Payne, Panni Nikas and Adrian Vranic also on the scoresheet.

FNQ Heat closed out the scoring with Charlie Beverley netting a late penalty.

Michael Marrone has headed Adelaide United into the last 16 of the Westfield FFA Cup.

The Reds defender connected powerfully with Danish winger Johan Absalonsen's whipped corner in the 63rd minute of their tie with fellow Hyundai A-League side Newcastle to head beyond Jack Duncan.

It was just Marrone's second goal for the club and first since Boxing Day 2015.

Melbourne Victory have made an early statement ahead of the 2017/18 Hyundai A-League season.

The 2016/17 runners-up have hammered Brisbane Roar 5-1 at Perry Park.

Besart Berisha grabbed a brace with Mitch Austin, James Troisi and Mark Milligan also on the scoresheet.

Peter Skapetis netted a stunning late consolation for the Roar.
