Why Mariners clash is extra special for Blacktown skipper

For skipper Matt Lewis, Blacktown City’s match-up against Hyundai A-League outfit Central Coast Mariners in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 holds extra-special significance.

Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 draw revealed

Lewis played 15 games for the Mariners between 2009-11 and will now try to help his side to a huge upset when the competition begins next month.

City, who made the quarter-finals in 2016, is one of just three PS4 NPL clubs to have made the Round of 32 in every year of the Westfield FFA Cup.

BRING ON THE FORMER CLUB

“It couldn’t be any better. I’m very excited about paying against the old team,” Lewis said.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been at the club…a lot of the players I used to play with aren’t there anymore.

“But I’m very excited and I’m sure everyone at Blacktown is buzzing too.”

CAN CITY CAUSE AN UPSET?

“Fingers crossed. I feel like we back ourselves against any team.

“Any team we would have pulled out of the hat we’d be very confident to go ahead and do a job.

“I can’t wait. It’s only about a month’s time now. I’m very excited for when it comes and I’m sure the boys we’ll be too.”

THE FEELING OF SCORING AGAINST HIS OLD CLUB

“It would be awesome to score a goal.

“I haven’t scored a goal all season. It would be perfect timing if I could get it in this game.”
