It’s an all-Melbourne matchup in the early kick off on Sunday when NPL Victoria’s Oakleigh Cannons take on reigning A-League Men’s premiers Melbourne City at Jack Edwards Reserve.

The Cannons have had a strong season so far sitting in third on the NPL Victoria table where they are six points off the top heading into the final round.

Oakleigh have also put in some great performances in the Cup, including battering Geelong SC 5-0 to confirm their spot in the national round.

Sunday will provide a much sterner test, but they can look to last year’s Cup where they managed to upset ALM Giants Sydney FC and make it through to the quarterfinals.

However, the hosts have been inconsistent lately winning only once in their last four matches.

To contrast, a good result on Sunday would be the best way for Melbourne City to put last season’s ALM grand final battering behind them.

City have had a turnover of players in the off-season as a series of new talents look to take centre stage for the side this season.

Melbourne City will be expected to win this one, but the Cannons are more than capable of springing a surprise.

Sydney FC v Central Coast Mariners FC

In the first of two all-A-Leagues clashes in the Round of 32, New South Wales teams Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners go head-to-head at WIN Stadium.

The Sky Blues grew into last season, making the ALM finals after a difficult first few rounds, so they will be hoping to get off to a better start this campaign.

Central Coast will have their eye on more silverware after last season’s emphatic ALM grand final victory.

They have lost some of their stars from 2022/23, but there’s no doubt there will be plenty waiting in the wings to take up the mantle.

There was no shortage of drama when these teams met at this stage of the Cup last year, playing out a 3-3 draw before Sydney snatched the game on penalties.

This promises to be another entertaining clash between two of the top sides in Australia each seeking to get 2023/24 off to a flyer in Wollongong.
