The last four clubs of the Westfield FFA Cup Qualifiers (Lakoseljac Cup) in Tasmania are decided with three underdogs prevailing in dramatic quarter finals and the reigning champions winning to stay in the hunt for back to back cup wins.
Kingborough Lions produced a major shock with a heartstopping 4-2 extra time win in their quarter final against a highly favoured PS4 Victory League top of the table, Hobart Jeep Zebras.
Northern Rangers took one step closer to Lakoseljac Cup glory and the dream of qualifying for the Westfield FFA cup with a dramatic last minute winner sending them into the semi-finals, downing one of the state’s form teams in Olympia FC Warriors, 2-1.
Beachside scored four goals in a stirring second half comeback, to turn around a two goal deficit and down Southern Championship rivals University at the Tropicana.
And South Hobart advanced to the semi finals of the Lakoseljac Cup with a comfortable 3-1 victory away from home over Launceston City in stormy conditions at Mitsubishi Park.
Following the quarter finals, Football Federation Tasmania (FFT) conducted the Semi-Finals draw today at KGV Football Park.
There were some shock exits in the quarter finals and some cup magic, and the stakes only rise from here with a fairy tale Westfield FFA Cup spot just two wins away from the final four teams.
South Hobart will be highly fancied to make their way to the Lakoseljac Cup Final, with the reigning champions drawing the cup’s major underdogs, in the last remaining Championship team in the draw, Beachside.
Beachside will look to capture the giant killing spirit of the cup and continue their fairytale run, when they host the trophy holders at the Tropicana, Sandown Park.
After both performing heroics to proceed from the quarter finals, Kingborough Lions and Northern Rangers will square off in the Semi-Finals.
Kingborough Lions were the major surprise packet of the quarter finals following underwhelming league form, they will host the last remaining northern hope in the cup, Northern Rangers down at the Lions den, Lightwood Park.
Ulverstone produced a major shock in the Women’s Statewide Cup Quarter Finals yesterday, smashing reigning Champions Olympia FC Warriors 7-1. The Reds will look to replicate that form after drawing a home Semi-Final up against the form team of the Southern Women’s Championship, in Hobart Jeep Zebras. In the other match Clarence United will host northern juggernaut Launceston City.
All Semi-Finals will take place on the weekend of the 1st to the 3rd of May, with dates and fixture times to be confirmed later this week.
