Ex-Matildas star to commentate on FFA Cup

Former Matildas star Sarah Walsh will be part of a football first tonight (3 August) when she becomes the first female expert to commentate a men’s football match in Australia.

The Westfield W-League commentator will make her debut alongside Steve Allen, calling the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 showdown between Canberra Olympic and Surfers Paradise Apollo.

The game will be part of FOX SPORTS’ extensive FFA Cup coverage tomorrow night and will be streamed LIVE on foxsports.com.au.

Walsh said she is looking forward to being part of the commentary team to offer her insight and analysis:

“I’ve been commentating for the W-League for a while, but calling the men’s game is very exciting for women’s sport. It’s a big step, and progressively the right one, and I think it’s excellent that FOX SPORTS have pushed for it to happen,” she said.

Tonight’s matches include the reigning Hyundai A-League champions Adelaide United in action against Redlands United FC LIVE from 7.30pm on FOX SPORTS 506, with multi camera coverage of Newcastle Jets v Melbourne Victory, Bonnyrigg White Eagles v Manly United and Canberra Olympic v Surfers Paradise Apollo.

FOX SPORTS will ensure fans can stay across the action whether at home or on the go, with the remaining matches on both nights also available via a LIVE stream on foxsports.com.au and FOX SPORTS Now on Apple TV and Telstra TV.

Westfield FFA Cup highlights show, Magic of the Cup, returns on Thursday, showcasing all the best bits from a massive two days of action.

FOX SPORTS is the official broadcaster of the Westfield FFA Cup and is available to Foxtel sports subscribers.
