Best moments of FFA Cup 2019: Fowler’s Roar shock Sydney FC

Nothing says Magic of the Cup more than an upset win and one of those came in the Round of 32 in Robbie Fowler’s first competitive match in charge of Brisbane Roar.

Fowler’s first test was a trip south to take on Hyundai A-League champions Sydney FC, who had made the last three FFA Cup finals in a row.

It would be a huge task for any side let alone one with a host of new faces and a rookie coach at the helm.

But it would be Fowler celebrating a famous win come full-time as his charges registered a famous 2-0 win at Leichhardt Oval.

Goals from Stefan Mauk and Jay O’Shea either side of the interval proved the difference as Fowler’s tenure got off to a perfect start.

The win was just Roar’s second-ever in the history of the FFA Cup and their first in five years since a 4-0 drubbing of Stirling Lions back in the inaugural 2014 edition.
